What is a Zentangle®?
Zentangles are miniature pieces of unplanned, abstract, black and white art on a 3.5-inch (9 mm) square tile. They are not only exquisitely beautiful; they are fun and relaxing to create.
The best news there are no limits when you create a zentangle®. No limit to who can make a zentangle; anyone from young children to art-challenged adults can design one. No limit to the repetitive designs that can make up a zentangle, and no limit to what creative art forms will be inspired!
Traditional Zentangles were developed by Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts. Find out all about this art form at Zentangle.com. Zentangles are also a ritual way to meditate and give you a sense of wellbeing. Maria and Rick’s mantra is “Anything is possible one stroke at a time™”
The repetitive stroke patterns are called ‘tangles’ and are stepped out to make them easy to follow. Artworks that use tangles but differing in size and shape and surface from traditional Zentangles are called ‘Zentangle inspired Art’ (ZIA).
I became a Certified Zentangle Teacher in October 2010. I have also authored Time to Tangle with Colors, the first book on coloring Zentangles and featuring Tombow Dual Brush Pens. I am also a contributing author in the Joy of Zentangle. Both books are published by Design Originals.
I teach a few Zentangle classes locally in person, and some travel teaching. I am pleased to announce that I also teach a Zentangle beginners class All About Zentangles online at My Creative Classroom. I also offer an advanced Zentangle Coloring class Time to Tangle in Color at My Creative Classroom.
