In this post I have two new tangles! One is a travel tangle that was inspired by a trip to ‘Big Buddha’ in Hong Kong, and the other a new fractal tangle.
I will have lots of exciting new Tangles, Tangleations and Zentangle Inspired Art Techniques for all the tanglers out there so follow me to make sure you don’t miss anything! For those of you who have not discovered this beautiful art form, find all about Zentangle® here!
Full disclosure! I work for Tombow USA as their Signature Designer. I am financially compensated for this consulting job and receive Tombow Products on a regular basis to review and write about. The opinions here are completely my own based on my experience.
For the tangle posts I need to apologize if you have already created a similar tangle. It’s hard to keep up with all the creative tanglers creating new and wonderful patterns! I didn’t find any similar tangles to these, let me know if you see any!
‘Angel clouds’ is a new tangle that was inspired by details on the Tian Tan Buddha and named for my friend Angel.
Here’s my sister Sharon and my friend Angel on the Ngong Ping 360 Gondola heading for Big Buddha
Tian Tan Buddha, also known as big buddha, is a very large bronze statue of Buddha Shakyamuni and located on Lantau Island in Hong Kong. It is 34 meters (112 feet) high and is one of the largest sitting buddhas in the world. The Tian Tan Buddha symbolises the harmonious relationship between man and nature, people and faith. The detail photo shows where I got the inspiration for the Angel Clouds new tangle.
‘Voronoi Fractal’ is an easy new tangle based on Math. A ‘Voronoi’ (named after Russian mathematician Georgy Voronoi) “is a partitioning of a plane into regions based on distance to points in a specific subset of the plane.” Well that's as clear as mud! I don’t understand it either, math is my archenemy, but this inspired a cool new tangle.
For both the Angel Clouds and Voronoi new tangles I have used Tombow’s Fudenosuke Brush Pen, Hard Tip for the modern calligraphy titles. You can download a FREE Lettering Practice Workshop from the Tombow website here to learn modern calligraphy with this pen!
For drawing both tangles, I used Tombow’s new MONO Drawing Pens. They come in 01, 03 and 05 tip sizes. They are juicy with nice strong tips that don’t bend if you are like me and heavy handed when drawing.
For shading the tangles, I used Tombow MONO Drawing Pencil. These artist grade, extra-refined graphite pencils produce superior shading of your tangles. They come in 14 point strengths from soft 6B to a hard 6H. The shading was done with B and 2B MONO Drawing Pencils.
