Description of Book

Soaps fragrant with oils or spices, fizzing up the bath, or molded into perfect petals to place in a pretty jar beside the sink. Ones with guardian angels or good luck coins tucked inside. A virtual cornucopia of beautiful soaps will delight your senses with their scents, shapes, and feel. (Of course, they'll get you clean too, oh so gently, but they're almost too attractive to use up!) And, these soaps are easy to make, out of the kindest, chemical-free ingredients. Just take a commercially available glycerin or coconut-oil bases, cut it up, and melt in a microwave or double boiler. Pour the liquid into molds to set--and let the real fun begin. Your imagination will go wild with possibilities as you check out different types of aromatic and essential oil (with tips on blending); additives such as almond or beeswax, colorants; and molds for hexagons, delicate shells, and more. Plus: information on hand milling!

Amazon.com
Extremely thorough and beautifully designed, Melt & Pour Soapmaking features dozens of luscious soap projects, with directions explicit enough for the novice and ideas sophisticated enough for the practiced soap maker. Accomplished craft designer Marie Browning (author of Beautiful Handmade Natural Soaps) explores a wide variety of technique variations, from chunk style and layered to additives, embeds, embossing, and hand milling. Slice a marbled soap at angles for the look of rock crystal; make delicate petal slivers using a silk rose petal as a mold; blend fragrance oils to yield the scent of sea mist or the power of Zen spice. Besides all the tempting bars, balls, and molded shapes, there are recipes for bath salts, massage oils, sachets, potpourris, and dusting powder. Pamper yourself with these indulgent creations, or if you can bear to give some away, follow the lovely packaging ideas or assemble gift-giving collections of related items. --Amy Handy

A Definite Must Have! August 27, 2004

This is one of the first books I purchased on this subject and I thought it was the best. Besides having some good recipes the book goes over equipment, moods of color and other topics. I have purchased her natural soapmaking book and her designer soapmaking book. I see that she has an updated soapmaking book, which I am planning to purchase in the near future. I wish I found about this book earlier. Anyone teaching melt and pour soap making should recommend these books to your students. Now that I am teaching, I will be recommending these books to my students! All of her books are great for beginners in this subject. I recommend this book to anyone who is on the fence.

Great book! July 18, 2003

The instructions are easy to follow. There are great tips for beginners that only experts have learned after years of soapmaking. The pictures are gorgeous.

The one to own! August 18, 2002

Not filled with a lot of history and boring stuff, loaded with large pictures, tons of recipes and well thought out packaging ideas, if you can only own one book on melt and pour soap making this is the best one I’ve seen yet! Creative ideas for layering clear glycerin and opaque. Easy to understand instructions and just tons of inspirational ideas! Has recipes for other bath products too. Cannot recommend this book enough, have not stopped reading through it and trying the recipes since I got it 4 weeks ago. Love how she organizes stuff into sets, perfect for gift giving come Christmas! Hope she does another bigger book, it is so nice to finally see a decent book for melt and pour! Absolutely wonderful!

This was my first venture into the art of soapmaking and I could not have had a better mentor than Marie Browning. Filled with lavish photographs and detailed information, MELT & POUR SOAPMAKING is my top pick for anyone who is interested in exploring this craft. There are many varied recipes featured throughout the book, beautiful photographs highlighting step-by-step what to do, and detailed information that adds more pleasure to an already fun experience. I was successful with every project I attempted (which is very rare indeed) and also utilized the author's suggestions on packaging my creations for gift giving. Needless to say, my creations were a big hit. A sampling of the contents: Melt and Pour Recipes (which includes Molded soaps, Loaf-style soaps, Embedded soaps, Embossed soaps -- very easy and they look terrific -- and Double Molded soaps), Hand Milled Soaps, Bath Salts, Botanical Blends, Bubble Bath Recipes, Bath and Massage Oils recipes, Bath Powder recipes (email me for a delightful Rose Petal Milk Bath recipe I was inspired to create after working through this book), Fragrance Collections. A truly wonderful book and terrific resource

This is a wonderful must have book for beginners. I think all beginners to soapmaking should start out with the melt and pour recipes. This book has wonderful recipes, very well explained and not complicated at all. This book provides information from how to make soap to bath salt to how to package your products. This is a definite must have for all soapmakers and crafters!

I was specifically looking for a book with ideas for Melt & Pour, since I'm not interested in messing around with Lye. This book was everything I was looking for and more! The projects will give you a lot of ideas for melt and pour, plus there are some fairly simple recipes for hand-milled soaps. And as a bonus, there are projects for bath salts, lotions, etc. This book is everything you need to make your own spa product line.

I really love this book & simply can't say enough about it! It's a very simple, easy, & fun read. It's an extremely user-friendly book. It's written well and it's thorough enough that you won't have any worries or unanswered question. Also, there are beautiful & helpful pictures on nearly every page! With each recipe you'll know what the end goal is and what it should look like! It also contains detailed information on natural additives, fragrance oils & Aromatherapy, soap bases, soapmaking tools, plus directions for other bath products (bath salts, fizzies, bubble baths, powders, tea baths, bath & massage oils and potpourri). Many packaging and gift ideas are given too. I've gone through dozens of soap making books trying to find the right one, and I don't have to look any further! Neither do you. This book is well worth the price. I hope you choose this book because I'm quite sure you won't be disappointed.

Aside from being a pretty book (which it is), this book covers all the basics and has an interesting variety of projects for every level. There’s something for every taste (yours, your great-aunt’s and your New Age friend) and the directions are easy to follow. Packaging ideas, basics in creating your own variations or ideas, and resources make this a must for everyone interested in soapcrafting – especially those who are new to melt and pour.

Wow, a great MP book! March 29, 2001

I just got mine today and I love it! I can't wait to start making some of her beautiful soaps. There are not very many great MP books out there but Marie Browning has 2! This along with my copy of Kaila Westerman's Melt and Mold book, are my two favorites so far! I absolutely recommend this book for soapers of all levels, even if you just look at the pictures! This book also includes many recipes for other toiletry items- salts, oils, bombs, milk baths and more. She also has many gift basket and packaging ideas. It is just a beautiful book, worth every penny.
